Weapons - japan
These are made by traditional japanese technology of folding and welding of steel with high carbon content, which is made on wooden coal. Folding is repeated until severeal thousands of layers is achieved. The construction of the blade is almost kobuse-gitae type (the core soft steel is wrapped by hard skin steel). The superior quality of the edge is achieved by traditional japanese manner of tempering, in this process is produced the edge pattern hamon as the border showing the difference in the hardness of steel.
Swords are grinded on whet - stones of different coarsenes and then are polished with several polishing stones. Blades manufactured by this traditional procedure are tested by cutting examination called tameshi - giri on bamboo pole. Hilt nad scabbard are made from magnolia wood, hilt is covered by shark skin or ray skin and is wrapped by ribbon. All parts of the mountings are made by traditional procedures, e.g. inlaying... It must be noticed that all parts of complete mouning of japanese swords are hand made.
